Hump Day again

Not a great deal of exciting craft this week... just been working on the troublesome grannies, might be time to go back to Lincraft and look for a couple more colours to mix in, seeing as I've abandoned the original yarn I was using. Also been stitching away...have a pillowcase with this pattern in the works, as well as a meaty sampler.

I picked up the latest issue of Crochet Today! last week, as there was some granny-a-rama contained within. Including these rather fetching potholders. Pattern here.


Will I make any of the patterns? Probably not. But they're nice to look at.

It's hump day

Yet again, although all day yesterday I thought it was Wednesday and was most perturbed when SYTYCD wasn't on at the right time. Or at all. At least I didn't wheel the rubbish bins out this time though. Yes I'm wishing my life away, hopefully that will slow down in a month or two.

Crafty wise, as this is the point of my humpy post, I've been trying to sort the troublesome granny problem...think this is the fault of the yarn. I just don't like the yarn I started with... so I'm thinking the first lot will become a dog blankie. I've made a few more with the prettier coloured yarn I bought at Lincraft two weeks ago, so I'll see if I'll keep that one going.

The only other thing I've done is read my little Japanese embroidery book ("
Scandinavian little embroidery") and was inspired to stitch this doiley:

Obviously the design is from there, I just added the text, as I don't believe Japanese people tend to say "cuppa".

Humpy

As I barely knew what day it was yesterday (due to having Monday off) I forgot to do my crafty roundup. Not that it's much loss, as I've had virtually no progress on crafty endeavours lately. I have made a few more granny squares... but the thing is, I'm still hating the troublesome grannies at the moment.

Hump Day Roundup

Everytime I sit down to write this post (actually I always sit down to write my posts, I can't blog standing up) I ask myself where the previous week went...? And have no idea. I've been stitching here and there, but nothing finished. What I have been doing is granny squaring. And I can't quite explain why, but I've been neglecting my lovely Bendigo cotton in pretty colours for grannying with supermarket acrylic, in questionable colours. No I don't understand either. It may be that the supermarket acrylic withstands Ninja attacks better, or that I get a buzz about being able to buy wool along with cat food, or that it's easy to cart about (as it's not in the giant Bendigo balls)...but I don't think that's the reason why.

And I have a quandry ~ I know people believe that bright colours, clashing tones and the like are great for grannies, and I agree...when other people do it. (This is my idea of granny beauty.) The problem is, when I do it, it looks crappo. Evidence:

I'm much preferring the solid colour squares too. Maybe I need some yellow or orange? I just bought the red this morning to see if it would help? Anyone got anything helpful to suggest?(besides bin the lot, haha.) The only thing I can think of is to do another round on each of them with cream wool.

A granny hooray

The picture above was taken following Hurricane Tracy, but I thought it appropriate for symbolising a reflection of my headspace. Too much stuff going on in there and recent events have left it (and me) somewhat battered (metaphorically speaking of course.) I'm trying to move forward, but of late (as reflected in my bloggy mutterings) I haven't been coping well with the ups and downs of life. Worrying about trying to sort my old house is doing my head in, as is trying to find a new place to buy and live...and now work tell me today that I'll have to relocate to the city. I'm feeling a bit directionless, and I don't like this feeling of being in limbo. And I'm not even a worrier, I just tend to react and do. It's reaching dead ends every time I try and get a plan happening that's upsetting me.

As I'm trying not to be a whinging old bag, let's also make a list of good things in my life at the moment:

• green light for the Peninsula Brown Owls
• super inspiring people in mah interweb world
  
• solidifying my relationship with the Fella
• new puppies!
• the potential of a new home
• focusing on completing craft projects

Yesterday (as the lovely Fella will verify) I was a total mess, sitting here in the afternoon having a bit of a sook. So what did I do?

Amazing how calming crocheting is, especially with nice soft yarn* in soothing tones. And then I went home and did some more squares for my blanket malarkey. Not all better now, but a bit. Hooray.

Footnote: The yarn I'm using here is acrylic...does anyone else dislike the solid "crunchy" feeling of the finished granny squares using acrylic...and does it disappear with washing?

More granny marlarkey

When I got up this morning and saw that Roman Holiday was on the teev this afternoon, I decided that I'd indulge in some Audrey and Granny Malarkey today.
First a stocktake:
Squares finished and joined = 25
Squares finished at hand = 7
Squares works in progress = 3 (actually they're circles at the moment)

Actally it's not really one of my all time favourites, but there's no doubting it's charm. And a good way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon.

End of day update: added another 7 to squares finished. :)

Granuary

Fluffing around on teh interwebs and blogz lead me to Mike's blog...and I thought, "yes, let's make a commitment to this blanket malarkey for at least a month"...so I'm going to try and do a granny-a-day until the end of February. I'm not sure if Ninja attacks will slow down my progress, but we'll see how we go.

And you know what? I also found a link via that same post to a great bookseller...and they even have the Thoth tarot that I've been trying to find for the fella. Ta Pip.
