David Jones Winter beauty bag

After this post and this post alerted me to the existence of this great offer at DJ's, I staggered down to the Bourke St Mall in my lunch hour and picked one up. What beauty product did I buy to qualify for the offer? An adorable shower cap, hehe. Big spender, huh?  I had a bit of a snoop around, but the range was a bit overwhelming and I was a bit wobbly (due to an infection in my leg), so I bought something I NEEDED and left it at that. The OPI bar was very appealing, but again, couldn't commit to a colour. I must say I'm delighted at the colour of the nailpolish...I actually went through the bags on offer until I found it. Another blogger has reviewed it here, and I understand what she means, about it looking a different colour in the bottle compared with on your nails, as it is more olive than blue... but that said, I still really love it. I'll have to check what the name of it is again (aforementioned blog reminded me that it's 'Just Spotted the Lizard'), I know it's in the Spiderman mini-pack (which I almost bought). My only gripe with it is that you need lots of coats to get decent coverage...I've put 3 on so far and it still looks patchy. I haven't tried any of the other products yet, besides the David Jones brand moisturiser, which is lovely...I really like their brand of skin care and makeup, it's very good quality and very well priced. Anyway, just a bit of indulgence for me on a day where I was feeling very ordinary, so a good quick pick-me-up never goes astray!

Taunted

So I was looking at Urban Outfitters' page...I've never bought anything from there before, but they were offering free shipping to Australia if you spent more than $50, so I thought I'd give it a go. I ended up ordering a shelf and picture frames. Shelf - that blue is my favourite colour:

What I really wanted is this ~ a cushion for our new charcoal coloured couch:

and this ~ the most perfect lamp for behind said couch:

But they don't ship these things to Australia. How vexing. Now I'm off to trawl ebay and the local interwebs in search of a lamp that satisfies.

Stationery and stationary

As I'm into the 7th day of my bronchitis, shopping from the couch has been appealing. Although it should be noted that on days 2 and 3 of being sick, I still went to work, so I don't feel as much of a pathetic lump as I could. I am VERY OVER being sick though, and not being able to breathe properly has been wearing me out. I'm fed up with listening to my own chest orchestra throughout the night. I missed a meditation course yesterday that I'd planned to attend with a dear friend, and I'm not over the disappointment from that yet either. Anyway, whinging aside, I indulged myself by ordering a new diary and fountain pen from notemaker.com.au today. I also couldn't resist adding in a roll of washi tape. So now I'll wait for my goodies to arrive this week. In lieu of any pics of my own, here's one from Notemaker's Flickr:

Shoe love and Miss Fisher

Just ordered myself a pair of Miz Mooz shoes from here.
I wanted a pair of these too (photo above) but need more dosh before I can buy them.

Also about to watch Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries on the ABC. Loving the costumes and style.

However, am the only one who find Miss Fisher's air of smug self-satification so annoying that I want to smack her? Probably. Perhaps I need the books. But anyway, the ABC show is all about the costumes and sets. For me, anyway.

Frock me

Today, from my permanent spot on the couch, I indulged in some dress shopping from ModCloth. I'm pretty sure everyone is familiar with their variety of gorgeous clothes. They seem to have a good range of sizes too, so I thought I'd take a gamble and order a frock or two, including this one:

I'm somewhat concerned though, as I fear after paying the ridiculously large postage ($30 US!) they won't fit my fat arse and it will be a case of this:

In other news I've done a few rows of my crochet jumper and am not liking it. The edges and colour joins look too messy, and I'm not sure if I want to pursue it. I might show it to the Knitting Knazi and see what she advises. I'm not feeling optimistic.

Oh Daiso!

As we were in Templestowe for a family lunch today, I suggested to Hubert that we go to Shoppingtown for a look. My master plan was to go to Daiso, as I'd been promising myself I'd go and check it out for ages now. So after feeling a bit lost in a panoply of shops (as I hadn't been there for years) we found it, and it was as 2 dollar-ariffic as I had hoped. Of course, our green friends should turn away now, because basically it's full of plastic crap. But it's fun crap, with kawaii characters, untranslatable packaging, and random stuff for kitchen and bathroom stuff that I'd never think to do in the first place (eyelid glue?!) Hubert obligingly carried the basket for me and said at the checkout "I think you've got about XX bucks worth of crap", and he was only 9 dollars under my final total. Oh dear. But my kawaii urge/Japanese goods fetish has been satisfied for a while, and now the kitchen has four new chair cushions made out of cute Japanese fabric (bunnies, turtles and dragonflies) as well as a bunny table runner. (Apparently it was a hand towel, but I'm sticking with table runner.)

Here we've got some peony bath salts (in the box with the girl), bear shaped pump bottle, wooden based pincushion, pink bento box, and various notebooks. You can see the green bunny seat cushion underneath.

The beauty section is good fun too, with lots of little travel bottles and baggies, and all the false eyelashes you'd ever want (in my case, none). Plus I bought myself some concealer and eyebrow "glue". And for fans of Kawaii stationery, there's lots of supercutesy bits and bobs. I think we'll take Miss C for a visit when she's in town next. They also had crockery, mugs, plastic containers, cleaning products and and all your other useful two dollar type stuff. Hubert was pleased to find some filter bags for making his herbal tea. And I grabbed some innersoles and foot patches. So I'd definitely recommend a visit if you are inclined towards some Japanese frippery.

Frock me!

I blame Toni (but in a good way) as she shared some great shopping links for those round of arse...I have a serious hankering for some new dresses. Festive and feminine would fit the bill. I'd also like to travel backwards in time and shop at some of these establishments.
I certain that this girl does.

Oh yes, I know I could try the sewing caper, but I'd like to hang onto what sanity I have left. For those of us who are lazy when it comes to clothes (much as I'd like to be excited about it), dresses are dreamy...you just pull one on, put on some shoes and you're done. Hurrah! More time for drinking tea, music, and dilettante crafting.

Granuary

Fluffing around on teh interwebs and blogz lead me to Mike's blog...and I thought, "yes, let's make a commitment to this blanket malarkey for at least a month"...so I'm going to try and do a granny-a-day until the end of February. I'm not sure if Ninja attacks will slow down my progress, but we'll see how we go.

And you know what? I also found a link via that same post to a great bookseller...and they even have the Thoth tarot that I've been trying to find for the fella. Ta Pip.

Antique Shed

As in, not an ancient shed, but a shed full of antiques. One of the places down my end of the world that I love is the Mornington Antique Centre (65 Tyabb Road Mornington open every day from 10-5). My Monday-itis was still getting me down yesterday, so I went for a wander after work. Last time the Fella and I were there, nothing really jumped out at me, but this time, various things said "Take me home Steph", and even though I ummed over the prices of a couple of them, the following items came with me:

Stuff on my kitchen bench... as you can see I've FINALLY found a metal soap shaker (that was the one that I ummed over the price). Everything else is just nice bits for the casa. The orange tin is a little vintage watercolour set, the blue jar is an Avon perfume cream jar and I was taken with the funky perpetual calendar, so I grabbed that too. And some art glass for my new e-bayed buffet, which Dad is hopefully dropping off on the weekend.

Sigh... I probably shouldn't be so pleased about acquiring stuff, 'cause after all they're just material possessions. But following William Morris' "useful/beautiful" theory... yay for nice things.
