Mitteny things

I couldn't help myself when I saw this wool on Bendigo's site...so I ordered an exploratory ball when I was topping up my crochet cotton for blankie malarkey. Pudding was quite interested:

Much like Pudding, I wanted to chomp the wool. Courtesy of Bendigo, I made the pattern for the "ribbed mitts" which was NICE AND EASY and didn't break my brain. Win all round. Here's a pic of one of the finished mitts (obviously the other one was holding my phone to take the pic):



I love the blocks of colour, and it's beautiful to knit with.  Now I'm pondering some sort of easy matching scarf.  Yummy.

Right now

I haven't been blogging much, as have a few things going on, and not really good ones, somewhat unsettling things. Combined with the fact that the internet is basically shickered for the rest of our billing cycle, I haven't been reading blogs much lately, as nothing really loads, especially the photos.
So I'll blog again when everything settles down a bit, at least Hubert and all the animals are well.

In the meantime, I've started knitting as stress release, and just finished reading a memoir by Madonna's brother, which, although he's actually gracious about everything, confirms my suspicion that she's a self-obsessed egotistical monster. Anyway, the knitting - on Friday I was left to my own devices while the fella was at the nautropath, and so I ended up in the wool shop, buying this pattern, and the wool in a musk pink shade to get started:


Not that the photo is very clear, but it's just a basic stocking stitch top...supposed to be easy. That fact didn't stop me from having to pull out everything I'd done yesterday, as I'd messed up the decreases, doing them every 4th row instead of 12th (yes looking at the directions for the wrong size.) I guess it remains to be seen if I'll finish this one (no?) but in the meantime it's keeping me busy. And I need that at the moment.

Legs need warmers

I found this on a blog today. Or are they booties? But tables have legs, not feet. Hmm.

Further thoughts

On my crochet blankie. After finding this knitting book at Savers on Tuesday, I'm considering making a knitted blankie instead. See the knitted dress pattern? I think the scallopy stripes would look good as a big knitted blanket too. Pro - knitting uses less yarn than crochet? Con - I am the world's slowest knitter. Yesterday a nice lady from Bendigo Woollen Mills rang me about my order, God love her, she sounded like she was about 65... so my yarn will be arriving soon, and I'll give the knitting a burl.

Amongst the knitting patterns at Savers there were some real 50s 60s and 70s gems, especially for men's knitted waistcoats, but practising rare self restraint, I only bought the ones I'd actually make... And I really like the designs in this book, retro goodness!
