Fave Faves

Hooray for Pip! I need Five Faves to remind me that life is worth living on a Monday morning.
So here's mine:

1. This post...oh I love it. And I must borrow banjo man because for some reason he reminds me of Steve Poltz.

[Re the Poltz thing, Hubert would probably just tell you that's because I heart the Poltz too much.]

2. This chicken house.

3. Prints by this guy. Here's one:

4. Eurovision, Eurovision, Eurovision. All weekend.

5. Lou Reed.

Post it note Tuesday aka things on my mind

Today, being post it note Tuesday, has me thinking:

Considering a few things:
~am I blogging to a void?
~does that matter?

Fretting about:
~what's going to happen with my work...I really don't want to move into the city.
~has anyone rented my old flat yet?
~will I ever catch up with this money thing? I'm sick of people chasing me...grr.

Happy thoughts:
~buying some fabric from Ink & Spindle for bedroom curtain.
~Ask Alice's regular staffy posts.
~one of my best mates is now home from overseas.
~Hubert encouraging me to "just do it" when I was um-ing and err-ing over my commitment to granny blankie construction.

As my mate Chris says "It'll work out." so I guess I have to believe in that. At least there's more good than bad there!

Post it note Tuesday

Via links on Danimezza's side bar, I noticed a couple of people were doing "Post-it note Tuesdays".
The concept is here. I liked it so I'm playing along. Supahmommy's writing style makes me laugh too.

Reminder to self:

Without makeup

Found via Ms Cate... "Bloggers Without Make up Day" ~ so here's random pic of me today, sans makeup. Actually this isn't a big deal for me, as I'm normally too lazy of late to care about slapping some on anyway. Hope I don't scare you too much, with my scars and bags and blue lips. But it is a valid point, that women should feel they can be themselves whatever they look like, and that makeup should be an optional enhancement and feel good tool, rather than a requirement.

Five faves

Time for Pip's Five Faves meme, so here's my latest faves:

1. This blog
. I find this stuff fascinating...I think because of the historical context, rather than being interested in crime. Especially the 'Accident Music' posts, including this one:

2. This photo. Just because.

Table of 50's collectables, originally uploaded by yewenyi.

3. This version of a song you all probably know. By the man who (I'm guessing) wrote 99% of that song. But don't sue me anyone, that's just an opinion.

4. This rather lovely journal made out of a recycled book, which I plan to buy from Etsy here when I have some money.

5. All things houses are on my mind, so this drawing appealed. I particularly like the happy cat.

Five faves

Today's faves:

1. Blog posts:

I loved this post about a fabulous girl.

This post made me cry.

2. Giant freckles. For the win.

3. Mackenzie Chloe, born 6.4.10 to my friends Bec and Chris. I like it when good people make babies, it gives me hope for the human race.

4. Facebook - I know it cops a lot of flak, but where else can you whinge when you're having a bad day and have friends both new and old say kind/funny/cheeky/caring things to make you feel better?

5. This picture. Via here.

Go see Pip and play along here!

Fave faves

Me being me...as in a bit vague at times...didn't realise that Pip had made the 5 Faves a regular thing. So in the interests of being cheerful, here's five of my faves today:

1. Easter Eggs. I know that is an incredibly dull and predictable thing to include this week, but I still think they taste better than normal chocolate. I don't know why...maybe it's psychological. But I want to nom them all.

2. Having curly hair. I know it's not trendy, but I like my fuzz. My fat head looks weird with straight hair.

3. This print which I just bought from this Etsy seller. Shopping as therapy, yeah.
4. This quote : "Time spent with cats is never wasted." ~ Sigmund Freud. I'd include dogs in there as well.

5. This post made me laugh. And I needed to this morning.

Go play along if you haven't already!

Five Faves

Gotta hand it to Pip. Just when I was being all "meh" about blog content, she comes up with a fun meme. So I'll play along with Five Faves...in 3 categories no less, because I'm a greedy Drewzel.

Five Fave quotes:

1. "I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves. They didn't bother to find out who and what I was. Instead they would invent a character for me. I wouldn't argue with them. They were obviously loving somebody I wasn't." ~ Marilyn Monroe

2. "I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion." ~ Henry David Thoreau

3."Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... now you tell me what you know. " ~ Groucho Marx

4. "You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body." ~ CS Lewis

5. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." ~ Dr Seuss

Five current fave songs (aka any excuse to put more music on da blog):

1. Can't stop singing this
2. Some favourite driving music
3. Always beautiful, always a favourite
4. I listen to this song often, can relate
5. I love nearly everything by this guy.

Five Fave blog posts from peeps:

1. Sunny bedroom happiness
2. What are they thinking?
3. Blogging in three pictures
4. One of my fave old posts from my first fave blog.
and 5. my very fave post.

Okay, swing by Pip's and play along too!

Hello 'my place and yours'

'My Place and Yours' has moved to here, so I thought it might be a good time to start playing along in a committed sort of fashion.

This week's theme will be: Behind the camera {a self portrait challenge}
Tell me a little about yourself, let me peek through the window and see a small snippet of your life and who you are.

So here's me - taken at work (office job) with my iphone... and some stuff about me:
~I have some sore teeth right now, I think fillings after the root canal work I had two years ago aren't holding up very well, and I fear I'll have to get the whole lot replaced. ~I am very loyal. ~I'd really like to look like a 50s pin up girl. ~I can't drive a manual car. ~I dislike clowns. ~I feel sorry for abandoned things by the roadside. ~I wish I could swing dance. ~I don't love my sewing machine much anymore. ~But I love my embroidery floss. ~Staffies are my favourite dog breed in the whole world. ~I like Buddy Holly. ~My job shits me but it could be worse. ~The scar on my top lip is a result of a cat scratch when I was about 3 years old. ~Song lyrics stick in my brain. ~I don't think I'll ever get sick of 2 minute noodles. ~Garfield minus Garfield rocks. ~I don't like avocado. ~I just want to live happily ever after.

7 things

Yesterday, over at Myrtle & Eunice I was tagged to share 7 things about myself. Hopefully this will be edifying for you, or at least vaguely interesting. Here goes:

Number, originally uploaded by red.i.

I have somewhat of a fingernail phobia. People playing with their nails, chewing them, cutting them near me gives me the heebie jeebies. In a similar fashion, I HATE long overmanicured nails, nail art, and FAKE NAILS. UGH. The Knitting Knazi and I use the term "fake nails" to describe a certain type of a girl...almost a nouveau bogan. "She was just so fake nails." Does this make me a bad person? Whatever.

I got in trouble in Grade 6 for being sick on Spelling Bee night, as my teacher at the time thought that my input would lead to our school winning. You'd think this would give me a big head, but I remember at the time just feeling horribly sad that the school was relying on one person (me) and that she didn't give a shit about my wellbeing, only that we didn't win. There have been many teachers that lost my respect throughout my school life, and while there are heaps of great, hardworking teachers out there, I think the process of becoming a teacher should be harder or more regulated or something, because I think there's a lot of teachers out there that shouldn't be allowed near kids.

hoch drei / au cube, originally uploaded by pierre-vdm.

I like to think I can sing. I probably can't though. I need to sing in the car to distract me from my thoughts...otherwise I don't concentrate on the road. Plus singing in the car is fun.

Seagull at Pier 4, originally uploaded by Massimo [B].

Some things I really like include: red frogs, sideburns, road trips, sitting in the bath reading, tattoos, open fires, art deco, classic Holdens, and footballers' thighs.

05 Numbers - Apartment 5, originally uploaded by M.Holland.

I'm sorry but if you write on Facebook, Twitter, e-mails et al, and "ur txt reads lik this & u r trying 2 make a significant point or ev3n xpress an opinion or jst tlk crap" I will dismiss you as a dickhead and whatever you're trying to say as a load of bollocks. The only time I find such expression acceptable is in SMS communication "bcuz fones r a bastrd 2 type on". Sigh. And people PLEASE learn the difference between "they're" "their" and "there". Goddamn it's not that hard.

6th floor, originally uploaded by sarah arnett.

I can't live without music. That's a pretty basic one.
This is my favourite song ever:

7, originally uploaded by biphop.

I love my bed. Why yes, I could spend all day in bed. Especially with some good company.

~~~~~~~~~~
Okay so that's seven... so now I'm supposed to tag seven people, so I'll go for Toni, Amy, Jacqui, Bek, Claire, Hubert, and Steph. Maybe you've done it already, maybe you haven't. But I'd be interested to see what you come up with. Tagging forward optional.
What I'm up to right now
Reading Kitty's blog, I came across this post where she was sharing a few things and liked the idea very much. As I'm out of brain power today, I thought I'd take my cue for her. Thanks Kitty.
Currently I'm :
Watching :: repeats of The Young Ones :: "SPG was asleep on the radiator".
Reading :: Japanese embroidery books :: my whole collection of 4 - I got them from my old house yesterday and am inspired. Expect some cutesy embroidery soon.
Making :: nothing useful :: embellishing really. And more grannies. I have plans for a doona cover though...when I can be bothered sewing again.
Eating :: spag bog :: oh the joys of living on one's own, I've had leftover spag bog for the past three nights and can't say I've cared. Need some crunch veg tonight I think.
Feeling :: rundown :: my current situation is getting on top of me.
Thinking :: about next week's trip to see Hubert :: 8 days to go.
Hoping :: that we can settle old house soon :: I want things to be happy and I need the money.
Wondering :: where I can find a new job :: I'm over it. Also wondering if it might be worth renting in Ballarat for a while before buying.
Hearing :: Modest Mouse and Sarah Blasko :: 'Good News...' on repeat in the car, and 'As Day Follows Night' in the cd player in the villa. Must find some new music though. Maybe this.
Liking :: my new bed linen :: bit of colour for the bedroom, hopefully it will scare the bad dreams away.
Wanting :: to settle down again :: hopefully soon.
Playing :: with embroidery floss and Ninja kitteh :: although his Ninja habits have been doing my head in this week.
Wishing :: for a wee housie of my own :: out of my hands right now though.
Enjoying :: the creative energy of my favourite blogs :: you guys inspire me.
Coveting :: retro chairs, tickets to the Avett Brothers in April :: hopefully I'll get them soon. Where's that money tree?
Play along if you'd like...what's on your mind?
Shoes
Reading blogworld today, I thought I'd play along with the current My Place and Yours meme via Punky & Me... Show us your shoes. I'm not really a shoe person. They don't make me drool or want to hand over all my cash for a pair that I just *have* to have. Having said that though, I seem to have well over a hundred pair, and that's after culling. But honestly I'm a bit *meh* about them. Requirements are cute and comfortable, and rarely heels. Oh, I'd love to gad about all gorgeous like this girl with wee vintagey heels but oh! my! ankles! So I had no idea what photo I was going to post ...until I got home.
Yes I guess my fave shoes are my brown Havianas, and here's the Anti-Bobbins (aka Ninja) proving that kittens and spools of cotton aren't just a chocolate box cliche.
